Vor zwei Jahren war ich zu Gast bei Qi. Und wurde verzaubert. Nach allen Regeln der Kunst. Qi. Spektakulär. Rasant. Atemberaubend. Einfach unwiderstehlich und zauberhaft. Märchenphantasie und Revue zugleich.

Im September 2010 feierte Yma erfolgreich Premiere im FriedrichstadtPalast. Und im März diesen Jahres nutzte ich die Gelegenheit, mir auch diese Show anzuschauen. Qi hatte meine Erwartungen hoch angesetzt. Qi war zu diesem Zeitpunkt das Non-Plus-Ultra der Shows in dieser Größenordnung. Daher war ich sehr gespannt darauf, was Yma wohl dem Publikum bieten würde.

Leider muss ich sagen, dass Yma noch nicht einmal ansatzweise den Zauber bei mir auslösen konnte, der sich mit Qi so mühelos entfaltet hat.

[…] In Yma geht es um ein außergewöhnlich schönes Leben. Das Leben der fiktiven Protagonistin Yma. Sie führt uns durch Stationen ihres toleranten und im positiven Sinne verrückten Lebens.

Die Show verbindet dabei in einem mitreißenden Show-Tornado prachtvolle Szenen aus ihrem freien Leben. Dabei wird eine neue Formensprache gefunden, die weg geht von traditionellen Theaterbühnenbildern und viel mehr eine schillernde Pop-Clip-Welt ist.

Yma ist eine wunderbare und strahlende Bühnenfigur. Außerhalb der Bühne existiert sie nicht. Sie ist Mitte 20, ca. 1,80 m groß und sie wird gespielt von einem Mann. […] (Quelle: FriedrichstadtPalast)

Der rote Faden, mit dem diese Geschichte das Publikum durch die Szenerie leiten sollte, war für mich in vielen Sequenzen und Kapiteln kaum erkennbar. Yma, mit Jörn-Felix Alt in der Hauptrolle, war zwar in seinen Kostüme und Roben eine glamouröse Erscheinung, konnte allerdings diesen Glamour und die Faszination  nicht bis tief in die Publikumsseele transportieren. Ich hatte sogar hin und wieder den Eindruck, man quittiere Yma´s Showeinlagen teilweise lediglich mit einer Art Höflichkeitsapplaus.

Ganz besonders berührt und tief beeindruckt haben mich dagegen:
–    das Duo Israfilov,
–    die Flying Steps,
–    das U-Show-Team, sowie
–    Andrey Katkov

Das Können, das Engagement, die artistische Leistung und auch die unglaubliche Ausstrahlung vieler Akteure erinnerten mich an die Berührung aller Sinne durch Qi.

Insofern war Yma streckenweise doch noch eine sehr schöne, farbige und vielseitige Revue, die im wunderbaren und einzigartigen FriedrichstadtPalast ihre Bühne findet.

Two years ago I enjoyed Qi. And was entirely taken away by its magic. Qi. Spectacular. Awesome. Breathtaking. Simply irresistible and magical. At the same time a fairytale fantasy and an entertaining show.

In September 2010 Yma successfully premiered at FriedrichstadtPalast. This March I took the chance to experience this show myself. Qi had set my expectations high. Qi had been the *One and Only Show* of this dimension. So it really made me wonder what Yma would offer her guests.

Dr. Berndt Schmidt, Director of FriedrichstadtPalast: […] The world of Yma is radiantly beautiful, cheerful and full of overwhelming opulence. This show tornado is Berlin´s biggest show, and with over 100 performers -singers, dancers, musicians, acrobats- even bigger than any show in Las Vegas. […] (Statement: FriedrichstadtPalast)

Unfortunately Yma could not really cast such a spell on me as Qi had been able to.

[…] Yma is about an unusual life – the life of fictive protagonist Yma. She takes us through phases in her libertine, open and, in a positive sense, crazy life. Berlin doesn’t explicitly surface in the show; yet Yma’s life can really only be led in Berlin, because if one word could describe Berlin, then it’s: tolerance. And also tolerance in connecting opposites.

In a thrilling show tornado that draws everyone into its spell, the show combines magnificent scenes from Yma’s life. In the process, a new style of theater is founded that departs from the conventional theater set and is much more of a dazzling clip from the pop music world.

Yma is a wonderful, beautiful stage figure. Beyond the stage, she does not exist.  She is about 20 years old, ca. 1.80 m tall – and she will be played by a man. […] (Statement: FriedrichstadtPalast)

I could hardly even find the so called red thread, which usually connects the different stories and themes. Although Yma, played by Jörn-Felix Alt, really impressed with those extraordinary gowns and dresses, all that glamour and fascination did not touch as deeply as it was intended to. Instead on this day I had the feeling that the audience´s applause sometimes seemed to be just an act of courtesy.

I was especially touched and deeply impressed by the following artists, though:

–    Flying Steps,
–    U-Show-Team and
–    Andrey Katkov

Skills, commitment, the artistical power and the awesome charisma of some of the many artists reminded me of how deeply Qi touched me years ago.

And this finally made me think that *Yma – too beautiful to be true* still was a lovely, colourful and versatile show which found a beautiful stage at the amazing and extraordinary FriedrichstadtPalast, Berlin.
